September Food Pantry at Þórshof

Back in the spring, we went to the Cumberland County Food Bank to ask why we weren’t getting any help with our local food pantry. We went with the intention to either leave with a carload of food, or to find answers. The very kind lady took us on a tour of the warehouse there, because she thought if we saw what they had, we would understand what was going on. The warehouse….. empty. Aside from a single Gaylord of fruit juice, there was nothing. Given the limp wristed response to Hurricane Helene last year, it all made sense. Federal funds given during COVID have dried up.

With the recent scarcity of food provided to local food banks, and since we do not charge admission for any of our gatherings at Þórshof, we are asking that when our members attend our monthly gatherings, that they bring non perishable items to donate to our own food pantry. This can be canned or boxed goods. This can be a minimum of one item per person. Paper bags are also needed.

We are still getting modest donations by a local grocer, but these are not enough. Witan Daniel and Gyðja Heather are working with a deer processor local to us as well. With these combined with your help though, we can make a real impact on those families that are in need. We have at least two families that depend on us as possibly their only source of food, plus all the many others that really need us to supplement their cupboards.

By our generosity and our hospitality, we can affect change in our own communities around our sacred temple, without relying on local food banks that have had their budgets slashed since the pandemic.

You may have noticed that we said we do not charge admission for any of our events. This will include our premier regional event, Austra at Þórshof beginning in 2026! We will still be posting registration links, so we have an accurate headcount so everyone is fed.

More to come!

Hail the Æsir!
